How Edna works

Edna works with women when symptoms have names, but the experience itself hasn’t been properly understood.

Her approach is grounded in careful clinical thinking. Rather than looking for a single explanation, Edna pays attention to how hormones, history, relationships, emotional load, and life stage interact - and how these layers shape what a woman is experiencing now.

Appointments are focused and unhurried, with space to think clearly, question assumptions, and make sense of what may have been overlooked, minimised, or explained away too quickly.

A central part of Edna’s work is holding responsibility for decision-making around mental health treatment before, during, and after pregnancy. These conversations are clear, deliberate, and grounded in evidence, with attention to what is clinically sound and realistically workable in a woman’s life. Where helpful, partners or family members are included to support shared understanding and continuity of care.

What Edna focuses on

Edna works with women navigating pregnancy, birth, fertility challenges, loss, trauma, and the transition into parenthood, particularly when experiences overlap or don’t sit comfortably within one diagnosis.

She has experience with hormone-sensitive mental health, anxiety, neurodivergence, and long-standing emotional load, especially in women who are functioning well on the outside while quietly carrying a great deal underneath.

Professional background

Edna completed her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at Monash University before undertaking specialist training in psychiatry, with advanced training in perinatal and reproductive mental health. She is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and holds a Masters of Psychiatry and PhD from the University of Melbourne.

Edna has worked across a range of public and private mental health services, gaining broad experience in supporting individuals and families through significant life transitions. Her training includes time at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, Royal Children’s Hospital, Royal Women’s Hospital, and Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

At the heart of Edna’s work is a deep commitment to thoughtful, evidence-based care that honours each person’s story and the context of their life.

Edna consults with WARM on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
