How Bharat works
Bharat is known for his calm, grounded presence and his ability to bring people together around complex or emotionally charged decisions. Bharat creates a non-judgemental space where individuals and families can ask questions, express uncertainty, and think things through carefully, without feeling rushed, pressured, or sidelined.

His approach is collaborative and relational, with attention to how mental health is shaped by family dynamics, roles, and the wider context people are living in.

What he focuses on
Bharat works with women navigating pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood, including anxiety, mood changes, trauma, and adjustment difficulties.

He has a particular interest in supporting fathers and non-birthing parents, recognising their essential role in family wellbeing and the ways their experiences are often overlooked or minimised during the perinatal period.

A core part of Bharat’s work involves shared decision-making around treatment before, during, and after pregnancy. This includes careful discussion of medication where appropriate, with attention to evidence, individual circumstances, and the values and priorities of the family as a whole.

Professional background
Bharat works in private practice and holds Consultant Psychiatrist roles with the Eastern Health Perinatal Emotional Health Service and St Vincent’s Hospital Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry service.

He completed his medical degree at the University of Tasmania and his psychiatry training through The Royal Melbourne Hospital, The Royal Women’s Hospital, and the Werribee Mother-Baby Unit. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and holds postgraduate qualifications in psychiatry, public health, and consultation-liaison psychiatry.

Bharat will be consulting with WARM on Wednesdays
