Clinical Psychologist
BA(Hons), MPsych(ClinPsych)

How Laura works
Laura Merrylees works with women and parents during periods of vulnerability, emotional strain, and change, particularly across fertility, pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood.

She is known for creating a calm, steady space where people feel able to speak openly about experiences that may feel overwhelming, confusing, or hard to name. Laura works at a thoughtful pace, with strong attention to the therapeutic relationship, helping people feel understood and supported rather than analysed, judged, or pushed to move faster than they’re ready for.

Many people describe feeling more settled simply by being in the room with Laura, as if their nervous system finally has somewhere safe to land.

What she focuses on
Laura works with anxiety, low mood, trauma, grief, perfectionism, and the challenges of adjusting to parenthood.

She has experience supporting people processing traumatic birth experiences, perinatal loss, and difficulties in early attachment and the parent–infant relationship, especially when emotions feel tangled, intense, or hard to hold alone.

Her work is trauma-informed and evidence-based, drawing on approaches such as EMDR, CBT, ACT, Compassion-Focused Therapy, Schema Therapy, and Circle of Security Parenting. These are used flexibly and collaboratively, guided by what feels most supportive for each person rather than applied as a fixed formula.

Professional background
Laura works in private practice and at the Women’s Mental Health Service at The Royal Women’s Hospital. She holds a Master of Clinical Psychology from the University of Melbourne and is registered with the Psychology Board of Australia.

Laura consults with WARM on Mondays and Tuesdays.
